Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal
Venice, Italy. At the corner of San Marco Square and
overlooking the Grand Canal, this elegant and historic hotel is
situated in one of Venice's most charming and atmospheric areas.
Guests enjoy majestic views of the Church of Santa Maria della
Salute and the island of San Giorgio; the hotel is just next to
Cà Giustinian - the historical site of the famed art Biennale.
As with Venice itself, history intrudes everywhere inside the
Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal. Beginning in 1638 the
building, originally belonging to the Dandolo family, hosted the
first "Ridotto Pubblico", a place to which nobility and people
from all walks of life, (adventurers, courtesans, swindlers, and
travelers) would retire for pleasure and intrigue. Giacomo
Casanova considered this place the ideal backdrop for his
legendary conquests. Today, this grand salon Sala del Ridotto,
stunningly restored with its frescoes, marble, mirrors,
balustrade and stuccoes seems to jump alive from the the 1670
painting of the salon by Gabriel Bella. The Hotel Monaco and
Grand Canal has 100 rooms furnished in grand style for those
who want to feel a part of Venice's history. The hotel's recent
overall restoration has managed to revive, with a contemporary
feel, the atmosphere of this historic building. For the business
traveler, It is now possible to organize conferences for over
250 people in the very heart of Venice. Another eight halls are
available for seminars and receptions. Golf and tennis available
nearby. AC.
