Sporting Life In Bonaire & Curacao

Scuba & Snorkeling
The newly developed Marine Park's quarter mile trail offering visibility up to 100 feet is snorkeler's heaven. Many of the island hotels offer dive packages and instructions. Some of the best are at the Sand Dollar Beach Club (Ph: 5997-5252); Dive Bonaire (Ph: 5997-82100) and Captain Don's Habitat, rated number one in the Caribbean. Snorkeling equipment can be rented anywhere.
Bird Watching
Washington-Slagbaai National Park enjoys a world-renowned reputation for its nearly 135 different species. Careful conservation has insured the procreation of all the island's birds, especially the famous Roseate Flamingos.
Bonaire celebrates sailing during the week long October International Sailing Regatta. The entire island joins in this spectacular event. Sunfish and sailfish rentals are easily secured at the island's hotel resorts. Windsurfing lessons are offered at Dive-Inn (Ph: 8448).
2 courts at the Sunset Beach Hotel (Ph: 5997-8448); and 2 courts at Sand Dollar (Ph: 5997-8738). Court fees are usually free to guests and very minimal for visiting players.
Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
Extensive coral reefs and spectacular wrecks. Snorkeling gear can be rented at any of the island's hotels and beaches. Fully equipped diving operations: Seascape at Curacao Caribbean Hotel (Ph: 5999-625000); Curacao High Wind Center (Ph: 5999-614944); and at Underwater Curacao (Ph: 5999-611644). The Marine Park, mile long snorkeling trails, highlighted by the HMS Oranje, sunk in 1906.
The Open International Windsurf Championships attracts talent world-wide for its yearly celebration. Yachts and small craft sailing can be arranged through Seascape (Ph: 5999-625000) and Sail Curacao (Ph: 5999-676003).
Curacao's 9-hole course at the Curacao Gold and Squash Club is open to the public and offers a good game for a very reasonable greens fee.
Most of the island's hotels have courts or will arrange court time nearby if they don't have a court.
