Sporting Life In St. Maarten

Sunfish, sailfish, motorboats, pedal boat rentals can be arranged at many of the hotel resorts and with Caribbean Watersports at Mullet Bay (Ph: 5995-42801). Full day catamaran excursions leave Philipsburg for St. Barts daily on The White Octopus (Ph: 5995-23170) or the Quicksilver (Ph: 5995-22167). For sailing excursions at Mullet Bay, contact Lagoon Cruises and Watersports (Ph: 5995-52801). You can travel from Philipsburg to Anguilla on the El Tigre (Ph: 5995-44309) with an enjoyable lunch included. Sailing, parasailing and water skiing instructions can be arranged through Caribbean Watersports at Mullet Bay (Ph: 5995-42801). In the evening, night sails and cocktail cruises with live music are enjoyable entertainment.
Scuba Diving
Excellent diving at the Proselyte Reef includes wreck diving, night dives, drift dives and expeditions to many island caves. Certification instructions, equipment and excursions are available through Little Bay Watersports (Ph: 22333); St. Maarten Divers, at Great Bay (Ph: 22446); Ocean Explorers at Simpson Bay (Ph:5995-45252); Red Ensign Watersports at Dawn Beach (Ph:5995- 22929) and at Maho Watersports (Ph: 5995-54387), at Mullet Bay, dive trips to the island of Saba are arranged.
The island's clear waters with visibility to 200 feet allows for hours of enjoyment for the avid snorkeler or the novice. Some of the best spots we found were at the reefs off Dawn Beach, Oyster Point and at Little Bay Beach. Equipment rentals and snorkeling excursions can be arranged through your hotels, at the beaches or through Red Ensign Watersports at Dawn Beach (Ph: 5995-22929) and Little Bay Watersports (Ph: 5995-22333).
Deep-Sea Fishing
An exciting sport for fishing barracuda, wahoo, marlin, yellowtail, and grouper. Instructions and excursions can be arranged with Wampum at the Bobby's Marina in Philipsburg (Ph: 5995-22366).
The scenic 18-hole championship course at Mullet Bay is open to hotel guests, island residents and cruise ship passengers, but you must purchase a complete golf package (around $100). Golf club rentals are also available (Ph: 5995-52801).
Horseback Riding
Beach rides with a minimum of 8 people can be arranged through Crazy Acres Riding Center at Cole Bay (Ph: 5995-42793). Advanced reservations are required.
Tennis is everywhere on the island and very popular. Most hotel resorts will rent court time to non-guests for a reasonable fee. At Mullet Bay Resort (Ph: 5995-52801) you will find 16 courts, 3 of which are lighted, Maho Beach, 4 courts (Ph: 5995-52115); and Pelican Resort (Ph: 42503).
