Sporting Life In St. Lucia

Sailing
St. Lucia's Castries Harbour is the finishing point for the largest sailing rally in the world - The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. Contestants start arriving in November and well into December and is a site to behold. The Moorings (Ph: 453-4357) at Marigot Bay; Sunsail (Ph: 452-8648), and Trade Wind Yacht Charters (Ph: 452-8424) at Rodney Bay, are available for charter sails with or without crews. Many take advantage of the spectacular sailing around the nearby Grenadine Islands. Small crafts for windsurfing, sunfish and sailfish are made available at the island hotels.
Snorkeling
Most of the island's hotels offer snorkeling equipment to their guests at no charge. There is terrific snorkeling at Anse Cochon Beach and Jalousie Bay, however, the most popular spot is at Anse Chastanet Beach, just north of Soufriere. Scuba Diving
The underwater life around St. Lucia is quite beautiful. Scuba St. Lucia (Ph: 459-7355) has a full PADI training center which includes underwater photography. Moorings Scuba Centre (Ph: 453-4357) and Buddies Scuba (Ph: 452-5288). Full certification programs are also highly recommended.
Deep-Sea Fishing
Team up with Captain Mike (Ph: 452-7044) or Barnard's Travel (Ph: 452-1615) to search for the island's marlin, barracuda and Spanish mackerel.
Golf
At the island's northern tip enjoy a 9-hole game at Cap Estate (Ph: 452-10023) and at the southern point, the 9-hole course at Sandal's St. Lucia (Ph: 452-3081) is lovely. Both courses rent clubs and have pull carts with caddies.
Tennis
Fast becoming a popular island pastime, Club St. Lucia with 9 courts (Ph: 450-0551) offers temporary memberships to visiting guests. Most of the island hotels have at least one court, with Sandals St. Lucia, 5 courts (Ph: 452-3081); Jalousie Plantation, 4 courts (Ph: 459-7666).
