Sporting Life In St. Martin

Scuba Diving
The lush reef life and clear waters on this side of the island offer hours of enchantment for any level diver. Lou Couture's Scuba Club (Ph: 590-872258) at Laguna Beach; PLM Azur Royal Beach (Ph: 590-872383) at Baie Nettle and Le Pirate at Marigot (Ph: 590-878973) offer full programs with instruction and diving excursions.
Snorkeling
We found the best snorkeling at Ilet Pinel just off the coast, but bring your own equipment as there are no facilities. This area has been designated a natural underwater reserve. Baie Longue, also has no facilities, considered by some to be the best beach on the island, offers miles of great snorkeling. Equipment rentals can be obtained at the hotel resorts or at facilities on the way to the beach (near the beach). Orient Bay Watersports (Ph: 590-87-33-85) schedules snorkeling trips to the exquisite coral reefs.
Deep-Sea Fishing
We found the best package in Port Lonavilliers at Sailfish Caraibes (Ph: 590-87-31-94). It's well worth the trouble to fish the island's barracuda, wahoo, marlin, yellowtail, grouper and snapper.
Golf
The championship 18-hole course at Mullet Bay is open to hotel guests, island residents and cruise ship passengers, but you must purchase a complete golf package (around $100). Golf club rentals are also available (Ph: 599-5-52801).
Tennis
Tennis is very popular on the island and most of the hotel resorts will rent to non-guests for a minimal fee. La Samanna, 3 courts (Ph: 590-87-64-00); La Belle Creole, 4 courts (Ph: 590-875866); Meridien L'Habitation, 6 courts (Ph: 590-87-67-00); and Radisson Le Flamboyant, 3 courts (Ph: 590-876000).
Horseback Riding
Lovely rides on this side of the island can be arranged through Coralita Beach (Ph: 590-873181). If you prefer the Dutch side contact: Crazy Acres Riding Center at Cole Bay (Ph: 599-5-42793).
