Merida is the center where many Yucatecan and Mayan artisans converge to sell their crafts. Beautiful woven and embroidered blouses (huipiles), multi-threaded hammocks, the distinctive Guayabera men's shirt, the Jipi Panama hat and the use of feathers and shells reveal an exciting blend of Mexico, Mayan and Mexican styles.

Mercado Municipal

The always overwhelming whirl of crafts, produce, livestock, household items, all with a distinctive Mayan and Mexico flavor. Addr: At the corner of Calles 56 and 57.

Garcia Rejon Handicrafts Market

Market solely devoted to handicrafts with prices lower than stores, provided one is willing to bargain. Addr: Calle 65. 

Guayaberas Jack

Large selection of off-the-rack and made-to-order Guayaberas, the ubiquitous man's shirt seen all over the Yucatan. Addr: 507 Calle 59.

La Casa de los Jipis

Named after the Jipis Panama hat that is represented here in great variety, this shop is also good for hammocks. Addr: 526 Calle 56. 

Casa de las Artesanias

The rooms of this former monastery are chock-full of folk-art items, as well as changing exhibits. Run by Fonart, the official government sponsor of Mexican crafts. Addr: 503 Calle 63.
